Parade Café
The Best Restaurant and Cafe on Wellington’s City’s harbour – A tugboat on the sea!
Located on a refurbished tugboat in the heart of Oriental Parade, Boat Cafe’s atmosphere
is both fun and relaxed - and our food is to die for.
ENJOY A: unique atmosphere, completely surrounded by stunning views of Wellington Harbour, and incredible food - at any time of the day. During the day, you’ll enjoy a relaxed cafe environment with a great menu and counter food selection, and at night we’ll dim the lights for you to enjoy an intimate table service.
The tugboat is spacious and comfortable, not only offering the main restaurant and cafe area, but two event rooms, perfect for your business meetings, weddings, parties and much more.
So, for one of Wellington’s must see, unique experiences - you’ve just got to come in and see us!
Our restaurant has become central to Wellington’s culture over the past 20 years.
Originally opened in 1994, Boat Cafe previously known as the long standing "Parade Cafe" has become a cafe institution for many Wellingtonians, and carries a huge social history with it. Over time, we have developed a reputation for our friendly atmosphere, great coffee and exquisite food.
Originally located in one of the Oriental Parade’s historic and iconic buildings (that since the 1920s had been a tearooms, a dairy, an Italian restaurant and a fish and chip shop!), we have always been amongst the Oriental Bay culture. In 2010, after consent was given to demolish the building, we jumped at the opportunity to move into the historic tugboat ‘Tapuhi II’, just across the road. This fitted perfectly with our image as one of Wellington’s iconic eating out establishments.
The tugboat may have been remodeled, with a lot of the classic Parade Cafe fittings (such as doors and counter tops) being restored and installed - but many of our great staff have remained ‘on board’, and we maintain our open, family friendly environment. Just amongst a fun, fresh new twist!
